Out of all the music festivals this year, which were the coolest? Did you travel to attend any of them?
I didn't get to travel to any music festivals. I've barely been able to see any live music at all this year despite my best some effort. Anyway, here are a few of the festivals I wouldn't have mind going to:
An interesting article
in Rolling Stone. I've been thinking and talking a lot about how the music
industry is going to have to change their business paradigm to adjust to the increasing ability to access music via the internet. They will not be
able to continue to sue their customers while profiting from them. Here are a
couple of theories about how the music industry’s business model will change. I
think the ad supported is the most likely change in the near future. With the “changing
their stripes” a close second. Some of the other theories seem to be already in
play, but I'm not sure of the success. Then I wonder how this will play out with the indie music scene--increase access and listenership while lessening the hipness factor?
Audio: Show us your favorite movie soundtrack.
Submitted by miyagawa.
I remember buying this tape in Madison before the movie was out. I listened to it constantly the whole summer. Pearl Jam's 'State of Love and Trust' is probably my favorite track. It also contains one of the only Smashing Pumpkins songs I like. The soundtrack is fantastic but the movie is horrible.
Which band or artist which is no longer performing or alive would you have loved to have seen?

Husker Du--I was able to see Bob and Grant perform together at the Rock for Karl but it wasn't the same.
Jane's Addiction--I had a chance to see them at the first Lalapalooza but Jill's sister threw a fit so I didn't go. I'm still kicking myself.
I'm sure there are a ton of others, but these are the ones I can think of off hand.
I didn't get as lucky as Cap did with The Killers concert. The opening bands were horrible. It was the first time I really honestly thought my ears were going to bleed. The first band or guy, Danny Vegas, wasn't too bad. He was a twangier version of Martin Zellar but all the songs sounded the same. The second band was from Des Moines. I can't remember their name. The lead singer had a voice like Tom Petty which is all fine and good, but he was singing harder songs which does not go well with that voice. Yikes. Then The Killers started. Of course, Ben and I were on our feet. The first song plays and NO ONE around us stands. The people in rows K and L of Section 208 apparently did not like the fact that Ben and I were standing so they started yelling at us. I continued to stand through the next two songs hoping the rest of Section 208 would realize this was a fucking ROCK concert and stand too, but NO everyone continued to sit while rows K and L continued to yell at us. I was impressed that Ben stood by me. He usually shrinks from any confrontation, but he stood there right by my side while the people yelled at us. When they stopped yelling, I sat down. Then they cheered--fuckers. I'm a little pissed at myself for sitting but we were literally the only people standing. Section 207 and 209 were all standing, but no section 208 sat during the ENTIRE concert. I've been to concerts before where you play the sit and stand game. People stand for the well known radio songs and then sit during the ones they don't know, but not Section 208, they sat during the radio songs too. Mr. Brightside--sitting, Somebody Told Me--sitting, Read My Mind--sitting. You get the picture. It was pure torture. I am not one to sit at a concert. It took every ounce of my being to stay seated. They left before the encore so all of Section 208 stood for the encore. Despite not being able to stand, the concert was great. The Killers are true performers and I was completely impressed by their sound.
