We went to Sleepy Bear Dunes and Lake Michigan today on the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive. There is a 450 ft drop from the scenic view to the shore of Lake Michigan. Maxwell wanted to climb down to the shoreline, but I vetoed the idea since I hadn't been dressed for hiking. We settled for the amazing view. Then had pie. It's been a wonderful weekend. Five more days of Michigan then we head for home.
What is the one word that perfectly describes your day today?

We've survived the first week in Michigan. The kids have spent plenty of time in the water park and playing MagiQuest.
Today, we went to Mackinac Island. We checked out various rock formations, the area churches, and the Fort then bought some fudge, boarded the ferry and headed back south. We are all exhausted from the trip, but it was awesome. And fudge is almost as good as the pie I am going to have tomorrow from the Grand Traverse City Pie Company.
We arrived in Michigan yesterday. After stuffing ourselves with Fazolis, we headed to the hotel. I was a little nervous about our room location. I didn't want a third or fourth floor room since it doesn't pay to take the elevator but lugging all of our crap up the stairs would be killer. The kids and I scope out the water park while Ben checks in. As Ben walks over to us, I spot our favorite life guard from last year, Evan. Evan was fun to watch last year because the guy was a pro at looking busy while really just gabbing with all the other guards. Ben and I made watching him into a little game. With the security of knowing Evan is in the building, Ben shows me the location of our room on the map. I'm super excited as we all head down to the same exact room we had last year. This room is perfect. It right next to the exit, vending machines and Ben can park right outside. I'm hoping it will be a good two weeks.
In other news, they have tweaked the giant sundae Ben attempted last year. No M&M = no gravel. There are only 6 scoops of ice cream rather than 8. They've added chocolate dipped pretzels and cotton candy. Since they changed the name and the size, we'll have to check to see if he'll get any prizes or glory for finishing.
Did you go to summer camp? What is your favorite memory/story? If you didn't go to camp, do you feel like you missed out?

I never had the opportunity to go to camp. I don't feel like I missed out on much. Jodi went to church camp one year (maybe two) with the neighbor kids. Tracy and I raided her room. We listened to all of her records and choreographed a heart-warming dance to "Papa Don't Preach." We probably read her journals and her Sweet Valley High Books. She was not happy when she returned. However, if I remember correctly, she introduced me to the Violent Femmes upon her return.

What are you most looking forward to in August?
August is all about fun. I have several things to look forward to in August. First, we leave in 9 days for a 2 week vacation in Michigan. We'll be staying in the same city and hotel that we did last year since Ben again will be training for work. It'll be 2 weeks of water park fun along with some mini-golf and a quick trip to Mackinaw Island. Then we come back home for 2 days before heading to South Dakota. We are going with the Smith family--they have 5 kids, so it will definitely be fun. We have plans to visit Mount Rushmore, Wounded Knee and of course, Wall Drug. After 5 days with the Smiths and South Dakota, we'll return to spend a day at the MN State Fair and then a day of rest before school starts.
