I've found out after I liked them too and then proceeded to end the friendship. Of course there were other issues, but that was the straw that broke the camels back. I figure I have 2 or 3 republican friends and that's enough.
A friend of mine is a registered Republican, and that was almost enough to push me over the edge. However, I recently found out that he votes Democratic the majority of the time, so now I can respect him again, even though that ugly "Republican" thing still hangs over his head like a cloud when I look at him.
That's a tough one. I'm surprised you don't want to smack him into registering as a Dem if that is how he votes or at least an Independent. You have much self control.
Not as much self control as you think. I regularly chastise him for being an idiot, and take great pride in proving that he's wrong! He claims to be a fiscal conservative, because he doesn't believe in the social platform of the Democratic party. But I love pointing out that after Reagan and Bush I it was a Democrat that balanced the budget and gave us a surplus, and now after 8 years of Bush II we have the highest deficit ever. I continually ask him which party is the more fiscally responsible. It's so much fun to watch him sqirm at that one!!!
